*14 -- K to College Event, 10:30 -11 a.m., Rolando Park Elementary, 6620 Marlowe Drive (92115). School and dental supplies valued at nearly $70 will be distributed to every student at Rolando Park and a special assembly will be held to celebrate the 2014-15 kickoff of "K to College," a nonprofit organization that aims to promote equal access to quality education by ensuring that every student has the resources and tools to learn from kindergarten to college. 15 -- College Prep Day, 7:30 a.m. to 12:25 p.m., Hoover High School, 4474 El Cajon Blvd. (92115). In an effort to promote a college-going culture, a campus-wide event is being held to expose students to college activities including seminars on community college orientation, writing a personal statement and choosing a major. *15 – Project Ujima: Back to School Basics, 5:30-7 p.m., Morse High School Hungry Tiger Café, 6905 Skyline Drive (92114). This is an African American focused free introductory class where parents will explore the meaning, goals and services provided by Project Ujima. Open to the public. *16 -- Dedication Ceremony, 9 a.m., Loma Portal Elementary, 3341 Browning St. (92106). Students, parents, staff, community members and district leaders will come together to celebrate the completion of the school’s new synthetic turf field. Open to the public. 16 -- Great California Shake Out, 10:16 a.m., all district schools and administrative offices will participate in the district wide earthquake drill. The district is joining schools districts from throughout California to better prepare students, staff, parents and visitors in responding to an earthquake. *18 – Invest in Schools, Not Prisons Community Event, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Avenue (92113). This free event, sponsored by the SD Organizing Project and District E Trustee Cabinet, includes musical entertainment by Tribal Theory, community resource fair and marketplace. Open to the public. *18 -- Fall Carnival, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Language Academy, 4961 64th Street (92115). The is the largest fundraiser for the school’s PTSA. 26 -- Trick or Trot 5K and 3K Fun Run, 8 a.m., Morley Field, 2221 Morley Field Drive, Balboa Park (92104). Proceeds from the event will support Roosevelt Middle School and its after-school programs. Cost is $35 for adults and $15 for kids 15 years and younger. Participants are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and prizes will be awarded for best costume in addition to race categories. *19 -- 17th Annual Garfield High School Thanksgiving Gourmet Luncheon, 12 noon, The Prado restaurant, Balboa Park. Culinary Arts and Hospitality students from Garfield High School along with chefs from the The Prado restaurant will prepare a gourmet Thanksgiving lunch buffet.
