* 26 -- Taste of Asia with participation by Barnard Elementary School, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., International Cottage area, Balboa Park. Barnard Mandarin Chinese Magnet School will be co-sponsoring the event where we will have an informational booth for people to inquire about our program. * 28 -- Vintage Cars at Crawford High IDEA, 10:54 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. media availability, Crawford High School, 4191 Colts Way (92115). Vintage car enthusiasts will bring their antique autos to share with automotive technology students in the Invention and Design Educational Academy (IDEA), one of Crawford's small high schools. 29 -- Confucius Classroom Signing Ceremony, 9 a.m., Barnard Elementary
School, 2930 Barnard St. (92110). Staff from the Confucius Institute at San
Diego State University will be on hand to dedicate the classroom, which will
provide curriculum for Barnard's Mandarin Chinese language students and

We will have our first part of the morning for breakfast in the classroom with your child while you listen to a read aloud and then participate in reading with children. * 15 -- Statewide Earthquake Drill Set with Participation by San Diego Unified schools, 10:15 a.m. San Diego Unified will join millions of Californians and participate in the 2009 Shake-out Earthquake Drill. Students, staff and visitors at both schools and central office work sites will practice "Drop, Cover and Hold On" and other aspects of site emergency plans. Workshop, two sessions: 1 p.m., San Diego Unified Physical Plant Operations

School, 4777 Imperial Ave. (92113). Starting October 27, 2009, the PSA will
affect all Proposition S work valued at $1 million and over. Learn how the
PSA will impact bidding and day-to-day operations on school construction.

* 30 -- Uniform Presentation Ceremony to All American Bowl Participant Dillon Baxter, Mission Bay High School, 2475 Grand Ave. (92109). Mission Bay High School student athlete, Dillon Baxter, has been selected to play in the 10th annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl football game on January 9, 2010, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
