13 SCHOOLS ON WASHINGTON POST "BEST" LIST
SAN DIEGO There are more than 18,000 high schools in the United States,
and according to the Washington Post, 14 of the top 2,000 are part of the
San Diego Unified School District, up two from 2010.
The annual list, formerly published by Newsweek Magazine, once again finds
Preuss UCSD charter high school with top honors, placing 24th on the list,
while the School of International Studies at San Diego High School placed
89; in San Diego County, only San Diego Unified has schools in the Post's
top 100. Schools joining the list this year are SCPA and Clairemont.
The schools are honored for doing the best job of preparing average students
for college by offering rigorous curriculum. Scores are determined by
dividing the number of Advanced Placement (AP) and International
Baccalaureate (IB) tests taken at a school by the number of graduating
seniors.

€ 1596, San Diego High School of Science and Technology
Superintendent Bill Kowba lauded the achievement of the schools, noting that
the effort is not only by the teacher and staff, but the students.
"This is one of many measures that show the excellence of schools in the San
Diego Unified School District," he said. "Every student, teacher and staff
member at these schools deserves a hearty congratulations."
