FEBRUARY
9 -- Rose Creek Fest, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Campland on the Bay, 2211
Pacific Beach Drive. Community celebration of the river that feeds into
Mission Bay and forms the eastern boundary of Mission Bay High School.
Students will be making water samples to check pollution and the Mission
Bay High jazz band, The Preservationists, will be performing. Contact: San

11 -- Area 1 Cluster Meeting, Porter North Elementary, 6-8 p.m., 445 S.
47th St. (92113). Parents, students and community members are invited to
attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at Area 1 schools.
Baker, Balboa, Chavez, Chollas/Mead, Encanto, Horton, Johnson, Nye,
Porter, Valencia Park, Webster elementary schools; Knox and Millennial

* 12 -- Curie Elementary Astronomy Night, 6 p.m., Curie Elementary School,
4080 Governor Dr. (92122). Curie¹s fun filled astronomy night will once
again feature amazing scopes and experts from the San Diego Astronomy
Association. This year we will also have some astronomy and space themed

12 -- Bay Park Elementary campus tours, 8:45-10 a.m., Bay Park Elementary,
2433 Denver St. (92110). Bay Park Elementary is offering campus tours for
neighborhood Kindergarten students and those interested in applying
through the CHOICE program. Contact: (619) 276-1471. Open to area
residents/interested families.
13 -- Loma Portal Elementary Kindergarten and New Student Tours, 9:30
a.m., Loma Portal Elementary School, 3341 Browning St. (92106). Take a
tour of your new neighborhood school or a school you might choice into.

13 -- Free Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) Clinic, 2-6 p.m.,
Madison High School, Room 101, 4833 Doliva Dr., San Diego (92117).The
district's Nursing and Wellness Program is holding a free Tdap clinic for
all San Diego Unified students in grade six who have not obtained the
booster. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign
the consent. VFC (Vaccines for Children Program) qualification is not

* 14 -- Share Your Love of Reading at Edison Elementary, 9:30 a.m., Edison
Elementary School, 4077 35th Street. Event will benefit the Rolling

20 -- Barnard Mandarin Chinese Magnet School Chinese New Year Celebration,
9:30 a.m., Barnard Chinese Magnet School, 2930 Barnard St. (92110). The
school's fifth-annual celebration has kids dancing, music and other
festivities. It will be the last at the Barnard Street location as the
school is moving to Pacific Beach next year. Contact: Eddie Park,

2 -- San Diego Unified K-12 Honor Choir Concert, 7-9 p.m., Brown Chapel,
Point Loma Nazarene University, 3900 Lomaland Dr. (92106). Elementary,
middle and high school students who have been selected by audition will
perform in four honor concerts under the direction of special guest
conductors. Community members as well as family and friends are invited.
There is a $2.00 charge and tickets will be available at the door.

7 -- Dana Middle School Family Tour, 3:30 p.m., Dana Middle School, 1775
Chattsworth Blvd. (92107). Fourth grade students and parents are invited
to participate in a school tour. Meet with Principal Ryan and other staff
members during a Q-A session. Tour the library, art studio, science labs,
music rooms, physical education center, and classrooms. Contact: Diane

8, 9 -- Association of African American Educators' 22nd Annual Conference,
Mission Valley Marriott Hotel, 8757 Rio San Diego Dr. (92108). The
Association of African American Educators hosts an annual conference to
encourage, equip, and empower attendees to make a meaningful difference in
the lives of African and African-American children. Educators and
concerned community members return each year to learn from each other and
from engaging workshop facilitators, session presenters, and keynote
speakers. This year's theme is Still We Rise. Speakers will be 79th
District Assemblywoman Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D and Edwin Lou Javius, Ed.D,

20 -- Dr. Thomas Greenspan, "Perfectionism: Something Positive or
Something Negative?" the GATE Distinguished Lecture Series, 7 p.m.,
Auditorium, Eugene Brucker Education Center, 4100 Normal St. (92103). Dr.
Greenspan is a psychologist and marriage and family therapist in private
practice in Minneapolis. The GATE Distinguished Lecture Series brings
nationally recognized speakers to San Diego to talk about gifted and
