campuses of the San Diego Unified School District. For more items, check

Please note that if items are listed as "not open to the public," that
means accredited members of the media are invited, but the general public
is not. These are generally items during the school day.

MARCH

* 22 -- Health Insurance Enrollment Event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., United
Domestic Workers of America, 4855 Seminole Dr. (92115). San Diego Unified
and the San Diego Education Association are partnering in support of an
enrollment event for low or no cost health insurance through the federal
Affordable Care Act, Covered California, Medi-Cal or for undocumented

* 22 -- "Are Your Students Career Ready and Prepared" workshop, 9:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m., Lafayette Elementary School, 6125 Printwood Way (92117).
Topics include: College/career preparation, navigating the school system,
how to read a transcript and calculate grade point average (GPA), and meet
with a volunteer advocate to assess your child's educational needs.

22 -- Elementary Instrumental Honor Concert, 7 p.m., Brown Chapel, Pt.
Loma Nazarene College, 3900 Lomaland Drive (92106). Concert of more than
100 elementary school students from throughout the San Diego Unified
School District. There will be a band and orchestra performance. Contact:
Karen Childress-Evans, director, (858) 539-5349. Open to the public.

22 -- JROTC Cadet Ball, 5 p.m., Town and Country Resort, Atlas Ballroom,
500 Hotel Circle North (92118). JROTC Cadets and dignitaries from the San
Diego Unified School District will participate in the annual Cadet Ball to
honor military traditions, proper etiquette, customs and courtesies. This
social event develops cadet citizenship and social skills in a formal

22 -- La Jolla High School Foundation annual fundraiser, 6 p.m., Green
Acre, 10300 Campus Point Drive (92121). An evening with a variety of food
selections at the noted restaurant operated by Chef Brian Malarkey.
Contact: La Jolla High School PTA, 858-454-2865. Open to ticketed guests.

22 -- Green Elementary Foundation "Taste of Navajo" fundraiser, 6-9 p.m.,
Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor and Interpretive Center, 1 Father
Junipero Serra Trail (92119). Features tastes from neighborhood
restaurants in the Navajo community, including Longhorn Café, Ahi Sushi,
Nicolosi's, and KnB Wine Cellars. Contact: Erin Liddell at 858-692-9187 or

25 -- Operation Lace Up shoe distribution, 12:30-2:30 p.m., Joyner
Elementary School, 4271 Myrtle Ave. (92105). Thousands of shoes have been
collected thanks to FOCUS North America and Operation Lace Up charity.
Over 10,000 pairs are donated per year, and at this event, children will
receive their shoes that have been donated by Focus North America.

26 -- Patrick Henry High Performing Arts Center groundbreaking, 3:30 p.m.,
Patrick Henry High School, 6702 Wandermere Drive (92120). The school's
long-awaited auditorium and other improvements begin construction with
this ceremony. Voter-approved bonds are funding part of the project.

* 28 -- EB Scripps Kids Against Hunger Food Packing Event, 8:45 a.m. to
3:15 p.m., Ellen Browning Scripps Elementary School, 11778 Cypress Canyon
Rd. (92131). Students at the school will be assembling 28,000 meal packs
to go to Kids Against Hunger, a project of our charity partner, Friends
and Family Community Connection. Contact: Liz Sloan, Principal, (858)

28 -- Holmes Elementary School Music Concert, 6 p.m., Holmes Elementary
School, 4902 Mt. Ararat Dr. (92111). Join the Clairemont school's fifth
and sixth grade musicians as they perform on stage. Contact: Jonathan

31 -- Cesar Chavez Day

31-April 4 -- Spring Break, all schools closed; administrative offices
open.

31- April 25 -- Spring Break, year-round schools.

APRIL

* 10 -- Autism Through the Lifespan discussion, 9:30 a.m., Ballard Parent
Center, 2375 Congress St. (92111). Part of the district's Autism Support
Group, the discussion will center on how autism changes through an
individual's lifespan. Contact: Dr. Grace Fantaroni, (858) 490-8532. Open
to the public.

12 -- Fast Times 5K, 7 a.m., De Anza Cove, Mission Bay. Five-kilometer run
benefits schools in the Clairemont neighborhood, including Clairemont and
Madison high schools. Sponsored by the Clairemont Hills Kiwanis and
Clairemont Mesa Education Foundation. Contact: rdrews2008@gmail.com or

22 -- Earth Day, events at schools throughout the district. Contact: Jack

* 24 -- Engineers for a Sustainable World Student Sustainability Outreach
Day, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Price Center, Gilman Dr., UC San Diego.
Interactive workshops and a panel of speakers will teach students about
both environmental and social sustainability. Information:

* 25-26 -- Association of African American Educators conference, San Diego
Marriott Mission Valley, 8757 Rio San Diego Dr. (92108). Conference theme
is Achieving Equitable Education for All: Diversity, Inclusion and
Accountability, and will be marking the 60th Anniversary of Brown vs.
Board of Education. Contact: aaaesandiego.org. Open to the public with
conference fees and registration.

* 28 -- Schoolyard Dash at Pacific Beach Middle School, 7:30 a.m., DeAnza
Cove, Mission Bay. Join supporters of Pacific Beach Middle School in this
5k adult and 1k kids run/walk around the beautiful bay. Every runner will
take home a finisher's medal and an event shirt with awards to the top
three male and female runners, as well as the top three boys and girls in
elementary, middle school, and high school level. Contact: website,

MAY

2 -- EdUCate!'s Taste of the Triangle. The University City school
foundation, EdUCate!, sponsors this event with local businesses.
Restaurants provide special menu items for customers. Proceeds go to
University City schools. Contact: Jemma Samala, Taste of the Triangle
chairperson, at taste@uc-educate.org. Open to the public.

* 3 -- Future Pointers K-8 Track and Field Meet, 9 a.m., Pt. Loma High
School, Pt. Loma High School, 2335 Chatsworth Blvd. (92106). Last May over
400 athletes from local Elementary and Middle Schools gathered at the PLHS
Track and Field for our inaugural track and field meet. Athletes competed
as members of their school team with their school PE Teachers serving as
head coach. It was a fun filled day and all proceeds support Protect Our

3 -- Teen Job Fair, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Roberts Family Branch, Boys and
Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, 2230 E. Jewett St. (92111), Come meet
local businesses that are hiring teens, organizations offering volunteer
opportunities and local colleges. Contact: 619-247-3598. Open to the
public.

6 -- Day of the Teacher Celebration, 4:30 p.m., Lewis Middle School, 5170
Greenbrier Ave. (92120). San Diego Unified School District honors its 2014
district and school Teachers of the Year in a festive off-site board
meeting with music and refreshments provided by students. Future Educator,
Mashing and STEM Scholars are also recognized. Contact: Jennifer

20 -- Classified Employee of the Year Celebration, 5 p.m., Sherman
Elementary School, 302 22nd St. (92102). San Diego Unified School District
honors its classified employees, naming one the 2014 Classified Employee
of the Year. The celebratory off-site board meeting features music and
refreshments provided by students. Contact: Anisha Dalal, Human Resources,
