Located on the western part of the middle school campus, the joint-use facility will be used by the students during school hours and the public during non-school hours. It's scheduled to open to the public on April 28. The cost of this project was nearly $1.2 million, which was funded by school district's Proposition S ($600,000) and the city's Development Impact Fee funds ($590,000). Project partners were Rick Engineering (design) and Palm Engineering and Construction (construction).
The city and school district have a long-standing agreement--established in 1948 and updated in 2002--to maximize shared use of schools and/or park land to mutually benefit the community and school. The facilities shared by the city and the school district include multipurpose turf fields, lighted athletic fields, tennis courts, gymnasiums, parking facilities and libraries. In total, the school district and the city currently have 76 joint-use agreements.
