Details: Clairemont High School (CHS) students and staff host a special morning celebration to welcome the future freshman class from Marston Middle school - the Clairemont Class of 2020. Similar to a college orientation, the morning begins with students opening their acceptance letters revealing which one of the four Linked Learning Academies – Academy of Business, Academy of Health & Medical Sciences, Academy of Engineering or Academy of Information Technology - they will attend during their four years of study at CHS beginning August 29, 2016. Students were able to “apply” to their first and second choice of academy at CHS earlier in the year, so the big “reveal” finally takes place with formal acceptance letters handed out to students followed by a tour of the CHS campus. The morning schedule includes:
9:30-9:45 am – Academy Acceptance Letter Reveal Assembly (Marston Middle School)
· 250 students open Academy acceptance letters
· Chieftain Pep band escort students to Clairemont High School – students, teachers, band and cheer squad will walk across Clairemont Drive to Ute Drive – *great photo opportunity
9:45-10:25 am - CHS Welcome Pep Rally (Clairemont HS)
· Cheer Squad Welcome
· CHS Teacher Performance
· Distribution of CHS Academy T-shirts
10:30 am – 12:05 pm – Welcome Day Campus Tour featuring the 4 Linked Learning Academies, led by CHS Student Ambassadors
· Station stops to visit selected Academy, Arts, ASB, AVID, Video Media Studio and more
Linked Learning at CHS: Linked Learning is a proven approach to education that transforms students’ high school experience by bringing together college-focused academics, work-based learning, and intensive student supports. Linked Learning students follow industry-themed pathways in a wide range of fields, such as engineering, arts and media, biomedicine and health. These pathways prepare high school students for careers and a full range of postsecondary options, including attending a 2- or 4-year college or university, an apprenticeship and formal employment training.
Photo, Interview Opps: Media will have the opportunity to photograph and interview students. Check-in at the office before proceeding onto the campuses. Media can set up in advance at Marston before letters are opened.
