Energy Officials and San Diego Unified Celebrate Zero Net Energy Pilot Project at Vista Grande Elementary School
WHAT: California Energy Commissioner Andrew McAllister and San Diego Gas & Electric's Director of Business Services, Todd Cahill, will join San Diego Unified Superintendent Cindy Marten and Board of Education Vice President Kevin Beiser at a press conference to mark the beginning of a pilot sustainability project that will transform Vista Grande Elementary School's main building into a zero net energy site.

PROJECT OVERVIEW: Using Proposition 39 funds, the plan is to achieve zero net energy in Vista Grande Elementary School's main building by installing LED lighting, a solar photovoltaic system, a brand new water chiller, and upgrading HVAC systems.
BACKGROUND: The Proposition 39 K-12 Program, which the California Energy Commission administers, helps schools improve energy efficiency and expand clean energy generation at schools. Proposition 39 is a voter approved initiative, approved by California voters in the November 2012 general election. The district's Energy Utilities Program team works with the California Energy Commission (CEC) to obtain Proposition 39 funds. These funds pay for the district's Energy Utilities staff and energy projects.
