Friday 8/11 - 8 a.m. – San Diego Unified Teams with American Idol Star & Teen Startup to Help Ease Student Meal Debt
San Diego Unified Food & Nutrition Services is partnering with the School Lunch Fairy and American Idol alum Dalton Rapattoni and friends to raise funds to help pay off student meal debts and ensure students stay well-nourished at school. San Diego kids and families will get a free preview of the musicians evening concert with a mini-concert at Allied Gardens Park & Recreation Center during a Summer Fun Café BBQ, where the families can also receive a free barbecue lunch.

Saturday 8/12 – 9 a.m. Free Military Appreciation Event to Assist Families Prepare for New School Year
The San Diego Unified School District serves more than 11,000 military-connected students each year. Many are new to the area and will be entering a new school in San Diego Unified on August 28, 2017. To help make the transition easier for these families and get a head-start on back-to-school preparations, the district, along with the Navy and the Marine Corp, is hosting a Military Enrollment and Family Appreciation Event. The event is free and open to all military families living within the service boundaries of San Diego Unified. The event will also include a free resource fair, a robotics/art demo and Complimentary BBQ lunch from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm.
