Thursday 5/17 – 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Montgomer Middle School Presents: Linda Vista Fram to Table Family Dinner Night
Each month Montgomery Middle school gathers together with the Linda Vista community to share a meal. Parents, teachers, and students cook together in their new kitchen space that was renovated by a grant from LOWES with all new appliances. The Montgomery MS Community loves sharing their cultural recipes and showing how they prepare them; other dishes are provided potluck style, but each represents a family contribution to the cause of why it is important to share a meal together. University students often prepare a dish on site as part of their Sociology class. Montgomery students also harvest whatever is growing in the school garden to incorporate into the celebration; if there is basil growing in the aquaponics system they make pesto. Students on the soccer team enjoy squeezing the lemons from the tree for a refreshing lemonade after practice. If there are enough onions, they make French Onion Soup! This event is HUGE in the Linda Vista community often drawing 40 -50 locals because they are building community in a very significant yet causal atmosphere. Young people of ALL ages, parents, teachers, staff, local community members who have elementary students praise the diversity of the event, sharing comments about how amazing and welcoming Linda Vista truly is for all. Students and teachers and families enjoy a meal and get to know one another in an authentic way, without academics or the pressures of the work day….it's just dinner!
LOCATION: Montgomery Middle School – Room 214 – the "Kitchen"
Speakers Available: Each month 4 groups will prepare the meal – THEY are the speakers! We have learned how to make Spring Rolls, sambosas, cornbread, curry chicken, and empanadas from 3 different countries!
