More than a dozen San Diego Unified Students Selected to Deliver TEDxYouth Talks at Lincoln High School
The event will feature 12 San Diego Unified student led "talks" and performances selected from 9 district schools. The student-led event organized by 20 volunteers will also feature an outdoor fair full of hands-on experiences and student resource booths.


WHAT: TEDxYouth@San Diego

WHEN: Friday, March 22 8:30 a.m. – 1:40 p.m.

WHERE:Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Avenue, San Diego

DETAILS:TEDxYouth@SanDiego is a special event focused on "Ideas Worth Spreading" from San Diego Unified high school students. All of the speakers and performers were selected from 9 San Diego Unified high schools. This event will feature exciting talks and performances by some of San Diego's most talented teenagers from Crawford, Hoover, Lincoln, Madison, Mt. Everest Academy, Point Loma, San Diego Met, Scripps Ranch and San Diego School for the Creative and Performing Arts celebrating their creativity, passion, and talent.

TEDxYouth@SanDiego will take place inside the state-of-the-art Lincoln High School auditorium and will also feature an additional hands-on experience space in the outer courtyard. The students will deliver "talks" based around the theme " Trajectory" which explores how the decisions we make as individuals may determine the path our life will take, and how our collective decisions similarly determine the path which our global society may follow. Talk Topics may include:
From the perspective of today's teenagers, what are the most pressing problems we face, and what are the best solutions? How can we create a better future; a future of hope and promise, of diversity and inclusion, of prosperity and sustainability?
• Bringing greater diversity into STEM
• Being bold when facing constant rejection
• The challenges of being a young immigrant
• Dealing with the reality of bullying and suicide
• Looking beyond SAT scores for college entrance
• The benefits, and the cautions, of code-switching
• Mental health and the tragedy of school shootings
• Positive and negative effects of the fashion industry
• The interplay of self-image, self-identity, self-discovery

SPEAKERS: TEDxYouth@SanDiego Student speakers will be available for interview: (Note: students will only be available for interview after they've given their talk)

1. During break 1, 9:40 a.m. – 10:20 a.m.

2. Lunch break, 11:40 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.

VISUALS:Students participating in the TEDxYouth@SanDiego outdoor experiences and resource fair. Media will NOT be permitted inside the venue. Filming of the TEDxYouth@SanDiego talks of any kind will NOT be permitted.
