February -- African American History Month.
* 11 -- SCPA Artist in Resident Donald McKayle, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., San
Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts, 2425 Dusk Drive (92139).
Two-time Tony Award winner McKayle will be working with SCPA dance

15 -- School Choice Applications Due for 2012-13. All applications online

16 -- Knox Middle School Science Fair, 8:20-11:20 a.m., Knox Middle
School, 1098 S. 49th St. (92113). Knox recently converted from an
elementary to a middle school and is holding its first science fair for
grades 7-8. Judges will be professionals from the San Diego science

* 23 -- Curie Elementary Astronomy Night, 6-9 p.m., Curie Elementary
School, 4080 Governor Dr. (92122). Members of the San Diego Astronomy
Association will be on hand to help Curie students and families and the
community discover the skies. Several telescopes will be set up on the
playground, a slideshow and the fifth graders will be selling hot

* 25 -- Clairemont High School Baseball Field Dedication and Annual Alumni

2-4 -- FIRST Robotics Competition, 8 a.m. daily, Valley View Casino

an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young
people together to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and

high school choirs from all over San Diego county will join together and

in the Clairemont cluster are: Alcott, Bay Park, Cadman, Holmes and Toler
elementary schools, Marston Middle and Clairemont High School. Contact:

22 -- La Jolla Cluster Views "Race to Nowhere," 6:30 p.m., La Jolla High
Parker Auditorium, 750 Nautilus St. (92037). "Race to Nowhere: The Dark
Side of America's Achievement Culture" will be watched, followed by a
panel discussion The cluster association first showed this film in October
2010, and it prompted changes in homework policies at some public.
