NOVEMBER
* Through Dec. 18 -- Junior ROTC Holiday Food Drive, various high schools.
JROTC students of the San Diego Unified School District conduct a Holiday
Season food drive to help those in need. Students, teachers, families and
faculty members also support the donation effort. Those wishing to donate
to this cause can deliver canned or dried food to your local JROTC High
School Program. Donated canned and dried goods go to various local
charities, churches and food banks to be distributed to families just

* 9 -- California Endowment Seminar on Local Control Funding Formula Town
Hall, 10 a.m., Cherokee Point Elementary School, 3735 38th St. (92105).
The California Endowment is hosting a series of town hall meetings
throughout the state to discuss California's new Fair School Funding,
formally called the Local Control Funding Formula, or LCFF. Contact: .

11 -- Holiday, Veterans Day, all school and offices closed.
* 11 -- JROTC Drill Competition in Veterans Day Parade, 8 a.m./11 a.m,
County of San Diego Administration Building, 1600 Pacific Highway. JROTC
students participate in a drill competition at 8 a.m., then pay tribute to
veterans by marching in the parade beginning at 11 a.m. Students compete
for trophies in different categories of drill (Color Guard, Armed and
Unarmed Exhibition Drill) during the early-morning competition. JROTC is
represented by students from throughout San Diego County. Contact: David

* 12 -- Madison High School Cluster Meeting, 5 p.m., Madison High School,
4833 Doliva Dr. (92117). This meeting covers topics that are relevant to
the elementary, middle and high schools in the Madison cluster. The
meeting is open to all school staff, parents and community members in the
Madison area. Schools in the Madison cluster are: Field, Hawthorne,
Holmes, Lafayette, Lindbergh Schweitzer, Sequoia, Whitman, CPMA,

* 12 -- San Diego High School Cluster Meeting, 5:30 p.m., San Diego High
School, 1405 Park Blvd. (92101). Parents, students and community members
are invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at
the high school and its middle and elementary schools. Schools in the San
Diego cluster are: Birney, Burbank, Emerson/Bandini, Florence, Garfield,
Jefferson, Kimbrough, McKinley, Rodriguez, Sherman, and Washington
elementary schools; Golden Hill, Grant, Logan, Perkins K-8s; Memorial and

students in a diverse showcase of performance arts pieces. Proceeds go to

* 21 -- National Parent Involvement Day, The San Diego Unified School
District and the San Diego Unified Council of PTAs invite everyone to
celebrate National Parent Involvement Day. It provides a yearly
opportunity for schools to welcome, honor, and highlight the powerful
contributions parents and caregivers provide at school and home to support

* 21 Garfield High School Thanksgiving on the Prado, noon, The Prado
Restaurant, 1549 El Prado (92101). Garfield High School Culinary Arts and
Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation students, along with the chefs from The
Prado restaurant will serve a gourmet Thanksgiving feast to guests. This
is a fundraiser sponsored by the Garfield High School Foundation. Proceeds
will benefit the students of Garfield High School. Tickets are $40 in

event honors the families of students from the class of 2015, currently
juniors, who are on-track for admission to San Diego State University with
an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher, are meeting college
preparatory requirements and have earned the appropriate number of high
school credits. Students will be recognized at this event and awarded
