Background: San Diego Unified is proud to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, plus (LGBTQIA+) students, families and educators. Here are some of the ways the second-largest school district in California celebrates Pride Month and supports the LGBTQIA+ community:
July 9: Board of Education to vote on two resolutions: Resolution in support of Assembly Bill 493 and Resolution in support of Recognizing June 2020 as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month for All Schools and Students in San Diego Unified.
July 10: Superintendent Marten to testify in Sacramento in support of Assembly Bill 493 requiring, among other things, that each school operated by a school district or county office of education and each charter school to provide online training at least once every two years to teachers of students in grades 7 to 12, inclusive, and to all other certificated employees at that school, on school site.
July 13: San Diego LGBT Pride Parade - “Unified in Pride” Contingent. The annual San Diego Pride Parade is the largest single-day civic event in the region and is among the largest Prides in the United States, attracting more than 250,000 people. San Diego Unified’s presence in the parade serves as an opportunity to make visible its commitment to promoting safe and affirming schools for students, families, and educators that focuses on intersectional diversity, acceptance, and unconditional support for our LGBTQIA+ students, families, and educators.
San Diego Unified is committed to equal opportunity for all students in admission and access to the district's educational programs, guidance and counseling programs, athletic programs, testing procedures, and other activities, and that all programs and activities be free from discrimination, including harassment, with respect to a student's actual or perceived sex, gender, ethnic group identification, race, national origin, religion, color, physical or mental disability, age, or sexual orientation.
Please confirm attendance in advance.
