San Diego Unified Celebrates Día Del Niño alongside 2019 Teacher of the Year
WHAT: Día Del Niño (Children's Day) is a traditional Mexicancelebration of children that culminates annually on April 30. The holiday focuses on honoring children, and emphasizes the importance of education, literacy and the positive impact children have on the future. On this holiday, children are traditionally given gifts that bring them joy and encourage them to pursue their dreams.
Caring teachers have the ability to change lives. That is why this year, San Diego Unified is celebrating Día Del Niño with the district's 2019 Elementary School Teacher of the Year, Hilda Martinez, and her students. Martinez is a Response to Intervention (RTI) teacher at Zamorano Elementary School. Martinez works with students who are having difficulties reaching literacy benchmark goals, and strives to help students feel confident in their reading abilities.
Members of the media are invited to cover this celebration. This event will serve as a preview to the district's annual Day of the Teacher celebration taking place May 7.
