MEDIA ADVISORY
MONDAY: MANN MIDDLE SCHOOL PARTNERS WITH DOCTORS TO PROMOTE MEDICAL CAREERS FOR STUDENTS WITH HANDS-ON MEDICAL STATIONS
WHAT: In alignment with San Diego Unified’s college and career readiness goal and its College, Career and Technical Education program, Mann Middle School will partner with Doctors Back to School (DBTS), a community outreach program held in conjunction with the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) annual meeting, to introduce students to careers in medicine and inspire them to explore opportunities in the healthcare field. Led by approximately 40 anesthesiologists and medical trainees, eighth graders will explore medicine through interactive, hands-on stations for CPR, airway management and brain monitoring with an EEG machine. The DBTS program aims to provide early exposure to students underrepresented in medicine. DBTS will provide all necessary equipment and supplies at no cost to the school.
WHEN: Monday, Oct. 19, 2026 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
VISUALS:
Over 100 eighth graders will participate in the workshop
Four areas: classroom, front of library, back of library and cougar station (all adjacent to each other)
Each area: four stations students will rotate through
