MEDIA ADVISORY: San Diego Unified Holds Third Annual African American Achievement Summit
WHAT: The African American Achievement Summit connects students with information and resources and is focused on high school students up to grade eleven. Participants will attend meaningful collection of workshops, meet mentors, mingle with their peers, and enjoy a free lunch. Students will choose from dozens of workshops to attend, focusing on African-American identity, student agency and empowerment, college access, paid summer internships, career opportunities and more.
WHEN: Tuesday, June 4
· Welcome Remarks: 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
· Workshop Session 1: 9:40 a.m. to 10:25 a.m.
· Workshop Session 2: 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
· Lunch, Resource Fair, Entertainment: 11:20 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
· Workshop Session 3: 12:25 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.
WHERE: San Diego Mesa College, 7250 Mesa College Dr., San Diego CA 92111
Background: The African American Achievement Summit was first held three years ago with a focus on students from grades nine to eleven from all San Diego Unified high schools. The event is designed specifically for African-American students but is open to all. The Summit is just one example of the district’s continued commitment to serve every child in every neighborhood of the district.
