JANUARY
* 26 -- "Lust for Life" Band Fundraiser for Correia Middle School Music
Program, 7:30 p.m., Pete's Grill, 3704 Voltaire St. (92107). The band is
run by dads of Correia students and will raise money for the music

26 -- Kearny Cluster Pre-K to13 School Fair, Kearny High, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.,
7651 Wellington Street (92111). The 16 schools in the Kearny cluster will
highlight their core instructional programs. Several early childhood
programs (Pre-K) are offered at the elementary schools, and many students
at the Kearny High Educational Complex begin attending classes at Mesa
College in 11th grade, some completing one year or more of college by high

26 -- Pacific Beach Cluster School Fair, noon to 3 p.m., Mission Bay High
School, 2475 Grand Ave. (92109). The six Pacific Beach schools -- Sessions
Elementary, Pacific Beach Elementary, Crown Point Junior Music Academy,
Barnard Mandarin Chinese School, Pacific Beach Middle and Mission Bay High
-- will have informational booths, activities for the kids and

28 -- Area 5 High School Cluster Meeting, University City High School,
6949 Genesee Ave. (92122). Parents, students and community members are
invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at the
high schools in area 5: Mission Bay, University City and Hoover. Contact:

* 29 -- Henry High Engineering and Design Academy fundraiser, 5-8 p.m.,
Patrick Henry High cafitorium, 6702 Wandermere Dr. (92020). Third annual
spaghetti dinner and silent auction. Proceeds help fund academy field
trips, projects and competitions and engineering classroom supplies. Meet
the academy¹s teachers and advisory board members, view engineering class

* 30 -- Anti-Bullying Rally, 9:30 a.m., Madison High School, 4833 Doliva
Dr. (92117). Elementary, middle and high school student representatives
from the Madison community in Clairemont, will come together for the first
time in a community-wide rally to end bullying and the use of hurtful
language as part of Madison High School¹s I Pledge: Hands Across the

31 -- Bay Park Elementary campus tours, 8:45 - 10 a.m., Bay Park

campus tours for neighborhood kindergarten students and those interested

31 Community Literacy Night, Toler Elementary, 3350 Baker St. (92117).
Award-winning author Kathleen Krull, whose acclaimed biographies for young
readers include "The Boy on Fairfield Street: How Ted Geisel Grew Up to
Become Dr. Seuss," the "Lives of" series, the "Giants of Science" series,
and the brand-new "The Beatles: They Were Fab -- and They Were Funny,"

FEBRUARY
* 2 -- E-Waste Recycling, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., La Jolla High School, 750
Nautilus St. (92037). Drop off old tech, electronics and other onetime

run/walk; proceeds benefit the Pt. Loma High School cross country team.

your child is entering kindergarten next year or you're considering a move

(92110). The school's fifth-annual celebration has kids dancing, music and
other festivities. It will be the last at the Barnard Street location as

The Association of African American Educators hosts an annual conference
to encourage, equip, and empower attendees to make a meaningful difference
in the lives of African and African-American children. Educators and
concerned community members return each year to learn from each other and
from engaging workshop facilitators, session presenters, and keynote
speakers. This year's theme is Still We Rise. Speakers will be 79th
District Assemblywoman Shirley N. Weber, Ph.D and Edwin Lou Javius, Ed.D,

Something Negative?" the GATE Distinguished Lecture Series, 7 p.m.,

Greenspan is a psychologist and marriage and family therapist in private
practice in Minneapolis. The GATE Distinguished Lecture Series brings
nationally recognized speakers to San Diego to talk about gifted and
