14 -- 2015 Elementary Instrumental Honor Concert, 7-8:30 p.m., Point Loma Nazarene University, 3900 Lomaland Drive (92106). Elementary students from throughout the district will perform. *20 -- College, Career & Technical Education (CCTE) Showcase, 4-6 p.m., Liberty Station Conference Center, 2600 Laning Road (92106). The showcase, in its 11th year, is the culminating event where CCTE students from high and middle schools across the district display a product they designed or describe a problem they solved with collaboration from the business community. Human Trafficking is the subject of the free event, which will include a screening of the Human Trafficking Component of the PBS series, “A Path Appears.” Parents are encouraged to attend. *27 -- Salute to Excellence, 4-6 p.m., Shiley Theater, University of San Diego campus, 5998 Alcala Park (92110).  Parents, administrators, district leadership and board members will gather to recognize the top 1% of graduating seniors in the Class of 2016 at each district high school. 28 -- Day of the Military Child, 7:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., Crown Point Junior Music Academy, 4033 Ingraham Street (92109). Activities will include a morning assembly warm-up with members of the military, soldiers reading in the classroom, pancake breakfast for military families and all school assembly with special performances and guest speaker. *30 -- IMIN Showdown, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., San Diego State University, Don Powell Theater, 5500 Campanile Drive (92115). High school students from Clairemont, Hoover, Kearny, Lincoln, Madison, Mission Bay, Morse, Point Loma, San Diego, SCPA, Serra and Twain high schools will compete in performance and art competitions scored by expert judges. O'Farrell Charter School Breaks Ground on New High School Buildings

WHAT: Approximately 300 students will join school and district leaders at the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new high school facilities at O'Farrell Charter School. The school is expanding to include a full-service high school complex, which will include nine, new, one-story classroom buildings with 14 classrooms, seven labs, a gymnasium, additional on-site parking and new administration offices.

WHEN: Wednesday, May 6, 9 - 9:30 a.m.

WHERE: O'Farrell Charter School, 6130 Skyline Dr., San Diego, CA 92114 -- Media parking will be available on site. Enter through the northwest gate off 61st St. (A site map is available upon request.)

VISUALS: Ceremonial ground breaking, junior high school band performing at the beginning of the event, student singing National Anthem, student-led Pledge of Allegiance, student speaker, construction equipment and construction site.

SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS: Dr. Jonathan Dean, superintendent of O'Farrell Charter School; Marne Foster, San Diego Unified School District Board president; Lee Dulgeroff, the school district's chief Facilities Planning & Construction officer; and a student speaker.

PROJECT INFO: The construction is anticipated to be finished during spring 2016. This project represents an investment of nearly $18.5 million into the O'Farrell Charter School and the Skyline Community. The high school expansion is funded by San Diego Unified School District's Proposition Z, the general obligation bond measure approved by voters in 2012. A portion of that bond measure was allocated to San Diego Unified charter schools.

District Leaders Celebrate with Students at Dedication of New Multi-sport Field at Fulton K-8 School

WHAT: Board President Marne Foster and Superintendent Cindy Marten will join students, parents, community members and staff as they dedicate the new multi-sport turf field at San Diego Unified School District's Fulton K-8 School in the Skyline Community.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 5, at 10-10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Fulton K-8 School, 7055 Skyline Dr., San Diego 92114 -- The field is located on the south side of the campus. A site map is available upon request.
Media parking will be available on site. (Enter the gate east of Tuther Way.)

VISUALS: Students working out on the new field, ceremonial ribbon cutting, presentation of colors by Morse High School Army JROTC, student singing the National Anthem and student speakers.

GUEST SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS: Board President Marne Foster, Superintendent Cindy Marten, Principal Stanley Munro and physical education teacher and students. Chief Facilities Planning & Construction Officer Lee Dulgeroff will also be available for interviews. (Spanish interviews will be available.)

PROJECT INFO:
This project included the construction of a new 58,858-square-foot, multi-sport synthetic turf field over the existing decomposed granite field at Fulton K-8 School.
