* Through 26 -- MAGIC (Mentoring A Girl In Construction) Camp, Stanley E. Foster Construction Tech Academy at Kearny High School, 7651 Wellington Way, San Diego, CA 92111. Magic Camp (Mentoring a Girl in Construction) is a unique hands-on camp that teaches the basic skills of carpentry, electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, renewable energy as well as 'green building.' 22 -- Summer Fun Café Begins at 22 schools throughout the district. Summer lunch program at schools and recreation centers is open to all children under the age of 18. Contact: Food Services, Joanne Tucker, (858) 627-7301. Open to the public.

24 -- Retiree Event, 4-6 p.m., Thurgood Marshall Middle School, 9700 Avenue of Nations (92131). San Diego Unified's retirees for the 2008-09 school year will be honored in a reception with members of the Board of Education. Information: Jack Brandais, Communications Department, (619) 725-5570. 24 -- Summer Fun Café Kickoff, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Skyline Hills Recreation Center, 8285 Skyline Dr.. San Diego. * 24 -- Sports Family Sports Night, 5-7 p.m. Darnall Charter School, 6020 Hughes St. (92115). Families will be coming to school to enjoy a variety of sports/food and will participate in many different types of sports from volleyball to soccer to dunking their favorite teacher in a dunk tank. * 24 -- Father-Daughter Dinner Dance, 6-8 p.m., Chavez Elementary School, 1404 South 40th Street, (92113). The annual event is one of the highlights of the school year. Contact: (619) 527-4098. Not open to the public.

25 -- Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for Special Education Executive Committee, 6:30 p.m., Ballard Parent Center, Room 3, 2375 Congress Street, (92110). The committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education and Special Education administration on the implementation of the Special Education Local Plan. 26 -- Celebration of the Arts from Page to Stage, 6 p.m., Montgomery Middle School, 2470 Ulric St. (92111). Creative writing, poetry, music, dance, visual arts and more have been part of the Montgomery Middle School staff and students partnership with the San Diego Art Institute in Balboa Park. The climax of the 16 week program is the celebration. Information: (858) 496-8330. Open to the public.

* 26 -- Multicultural Fair, 12:45 p.m., Darnall Charter School, 6020 Hughes St. (92115). Each classroom will be presenting a program on a different culture, with students performing songs and dances from around the world. Contact: Kristi Nelson, (619) 582-1822. Not open to the public.

* 27 -- Ericson Cleanup Day, 8 a.m. to noon, Ericson Elementary School, 11174 Westonhill Drive, San Diego, CA 92126. The Friends of Ericson Foundation is partnering with HEROES of Mira Mesa to do a major beautification project at Ericson and we need all the hands we can get. Activities include painting, planting and other general duties. From adults to kids - it will be a great family day at Ericson with everyone making a difference in some way. 30 - Ocean Beach Elementary School Artwork On Display at Ocean Beach Shops and Restaurants, open business hours in the Ocean Beach community. Student work from the AT&T Yellow Pages Project Redirectory Phone Book Recycling Art Challenge will be decorating businesses, including 10-15 pieces at the Ocean Beach Peoples Organic Food Co-op. * 30 -- Open House and Fair, 5-7 p.m., Boone Elementary School, 7330 Brookhaven Rd. (92114). All parents, guardians and family members are invited to see their child's work in the classroom, speak with their child's teacher, see a performance of the Boone Band and Orchestra Performance, Upper Grade Invention Convention, and food and drink sale, with proceeds supporting the Boone ASB. 30-31 -- Character Development Conference, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., University of San Diego, School of Leadership and Education Sciences, Character Development Center. Two-day conference includes speakers who will discuss the particulars of character education. A program of the University of San Diego. Information: (619) 260-2250. Open to the public with fee and registration.

* 1 -- Open House, 5-7 p.m., Cherokee Point Elementary School, 3735 38th St. (92105). Visit your child's classroom and chat with teacher. Contact: (619) 641-3400. Not open to the public.

3-14. Summer Intensive, San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), 2425 Dusk Drive (92139). Two-week for advancing high school students interested developing their chosen arts discipline; taught by SCPA faculty and Master Artists from San Diego and Los Angeles.
