San Diego Unified School District showcases its 21st Century Interactive Classroom Technology
SAN DIEGO-In an unprecedented effort, the San Diego Unified School District has initiated a five-year plan to equip each kindergarten through 12th-grade classroom with a suite of new digital tools that are designed to create an engaging and personalized learning environment. The main components of the Interactive 21st Century (i21) Classroom include an interactive whiteboard, audio-visual cabinet, a teacher's presentation station, a wireless voice amplification system, an advanced model document camera, and a DVD player. These interactive classroom suites are funded by Proposition S, the $2.1 billion bond measure was passed by voters on November 4, 2008.
Media representatives are invited to attend an "i21 Demonstration" beginning at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, January 29, at Pershing Middle School, 8204 San Carlos Drive, San Diego, 92119. The schedule is as follows:
* 8:50-9:05 a.m. - Quick overview of i21 from both the principal and the district's chief information technology officer
* 9:00-9:30 a.m. - Classrooms visits
* 9:30-9:40 a.m. - Closing comments from the principal and vice principal about the change that is taking place in their classrooms
Interview availability: Board President Richard Barrera (8:30-9 a.m. only), Chief Technology Officer Darryl LaGacé, Principal Sarah Sullivan, and Proposition S directors of planning and project management.
