WHAT: Read Across America Program
WHEN: March 2, 2010
BACKGROUND: As part of the festivities celebrating the birth of Ted Geisel,
also known as Dr. Seuss, Read Across America began in 1997. It's an event
where members of the community are encouraged to visit and read to
elementary school students. In middle schools, community members will be
helping struggling readers. The event is sponsored by the National Education
Association.
The following schools are inviting your coverage.
8-11 a.m.
Burbank Elementary School

Members of the local community will be reading to students from Dr. Seuss in
their very own Diffendoofer celebration.
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Fay Elementary School,

Beginning at 9 a.m., guest readers include Craig McKee from CBS 8, author
Diane Asitimbay, Paul Maleny and the Lambs Players Theater, Whtiney

Mike Hayes, firefighter/paramedic/SWAT; TB Prokids

Lindbergh Schweitzer Elementary School

Paw'ititve Service Dogs of San Diego will be sending six teams, each with a
service dog and a reader, and will be visiting classrooms.

Students from the University of San Diego will be working with students.
