Toyota Donated Engines Enhance SDUSD Transportation Curriculum
WHAT: Students from Clairemont HS, Crawford HS, Madison HS and Mira Mesa HS Transportation programs will demonstrate multiple procedures at different training stations using various types of donated Toyota engines.
WHEN: Wednesday, November 06 (rain or shine)

· 11:35 a.m.-12:15 p.m. – Student demonstrations featuring donated Toyota engines

VISUALS: Students and Toyota master technicians working together to change timing belts, provide accessory belt demonstration, simulate a 100k mile tune-up, and perform simultaneous scans on a hybrid motor alongside RAV EV motor with discussion of hybrid awareness.

BACKGROUND: Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc., donated thirty-four new drivetrain drop-ins (motor, transmission, and drivetrain components) to six San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) Transportation programs (Clairemont HS, Crawford HS, La Jolla HS, Madison HS, Mira Mesa HS, and Point Loma HS). Donated drivetrain types included Camry (hybrid and non-hybrid), Lexus ES330, Lexus ES350 RAV4, Yaris, Lexus IS250, Lexus IS300, Lexus IS350 and 4Runner models. This donation will provide for practical instruction and support the 2012 NATEF automotive standards and curriculum by allowing students to work with a variety of engine types.
The students enrolled in the SDUSD courses in the Transportation program can receive college credit from Miramar College. These courses include Foundations of Transportation Technology, Auto Technology 3,4 and Auto Technology 5,6.

The Transportation industry sector is designed to provide a foundation in transportation services for all industrial technology education students in California. There are eight focus areas that fall under the Transportation sector, each with different career opportunities. The focus areas are On-Road; Off-Road; Stationary; Rail; Water/Sea; Air; Space; and Small Engines and Specialty Equipment.
