Urban Education Expert to Speak at Community Meeting: Dr. Pedro Noguera and San Diego Unified leaders to discuss empowering the next generation of learners
WHAT: Dr. Pedro Noguera, one of the country’s most prominent professors of urban education, will join leaders of the San Diego Unified School District for a community meeting to discuss how parents and schools can use equity and action to empower the next generation of African, African-American and Latino learners. All community members are welcome to attend this event. Childcare and translators will be available, and light refreshments will be served.

DETAILS: Noguera is a sociologist whose research focuses on topics such as the effect of social and economic conditions on schools, demographic trends in academic achievement, and policies that promote student success regardless of their race or social class. He regularly appears as a commentator on education issues on CNN, MSNBC, NPR and other national news outlets. He has authored numerous books, including his most recent, “Excellence through Equity,” which highlights the strategies real-world educators are using to equitably provide the resources and support each student needs to reach his or her full potential. Noguera is currently a professor of education at UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.
