La Jolla High School Celebrates New Sports Complex Tonight
WHAT: A dedication ceremony will be held on the 50-yard line of the newly renovated La Jolla High stadium, followed by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, and the school’s first “Coaching Wall of Honor” induction.
WHEN: 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14 (tonight)

DETAILS: Board President Michael McQuary and Superintendent Cindy Marten, and Principal Chuck Podorsky will join students athletes and others on the 50-yard-line of the school’s rebuilt stadium for the official dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Following a 10-minute ceremony, the school induct coaches into their new first “Coaching Wall of Honor.”
SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWEES: Chuck Podhorsky, principal; Michael McQuary, board president; Cindy Marten, superintendent of San Diego Unified School District; and Jeny Becerra, senior, co-captain cheerleader, Visual and Performing Arts student, yearbook and Cardinal newspaper staff. Lee Dulgeroff, chief Facilities Planning & Construction officer, and Paula Conway, La Jolla High School athletic director, will also be available for interviews. (Interviews available in Spanish.)
PHOTOS/VISUALS: La Jolla High School Marching Band performing, a variety of student athletes participating in ceremonial ribbon cutting, football players working out on the new stadium field, first Coaching Wall of Honor induction (several former coaches); 7 p.m. kick-off for homecoming football game, half-time presentations, homecoming floats and homecoming ceremony. Before the dedication of the stadium, there is an opening ceremony for the new Tennis Pavilion beginning at 5 p.m.
BACKGROUND: San Diego Unified School District’s Propositions S & Z funded the athletic facilities improvements. The $12 million project included rebuilding the stadium, replacing the stadium field, constructing new home and visitor plazas, concessions, restrooms, weight rooms and boys locker building. (The boys locker building was demolished for the construction project.) The project also included a new stadium press box, bleachers, entry gates. In addition, a new concessions/restrooms building was constructed for the school’s Tennis Pavilion.
