San Diego Unified Selected by U.S. Department of State to Host STEAM/STEM Showcase
More than 15 foreign journalists will visit Jefferson Elementary to learn about San Diego Unified's exemplary STEAM/STEM programs
WHAT: The San Diego Unified School District will host a group of international journalists from the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Press Center Wednesday, May 3. The group of journalists are studying American Innovation and Entrepreneurship as engines for growth of the U.S. economy, with positive global effect.
San Diego Unified was selected as an exemplary school site by the the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Public Affairs for their unique STEAM and STEM programs that prepare children to be a part of San Diego's innovation environment.
San Diego Unified will be hosting the journalists at Jefferson Elementary, from 12:00-1:30 pm in the library. There will be an introduction, a presentation about our Magnet STEAM/STEM grants, a presentation about the STEAM program at Jefferson, a tour of the facility and exhibits, and pupil demonstrations.
Student ambassadors will be present, and a panel comprised of teachers, parents and staff will be available for media interviews.
Background
The U.S. Department of State Foreign Press Centers run several foreign reporting tours per year, centered on a theme of U.S. policy focus. The journalists spend about 10 days in the U.S. learning about that topic and produce media reports that run in their home outlets.
