San Diego Unified School District Names 2021 Classified Employees of the Year
Custodial Operations Supervisor, Microcomputer Training Specialist Honored as San Diego Unified Classified Employees of the Year for 2021
SAN DIEGO – Ronald Dare, a Custodial Operations Supervisor, and David Marceleno-Benavides, a Microcomputer Training Specialist, have been named San Diego Unified School District's Classified Employees of the Year for 2021.
Coinciding with Classified School Employee Week, San Diego Unified will honor its 2021 Classified Employee of the Year, Classified Employee of the Year Runner-Up, and the site Classified Employees of the Year at a special virtual celebration on Thursday, May 20 at 5 p.m. Classified Employees of the Year from individual school sites and departments from 2020, will also be honored.
Classified school employees play crucial roles in education. From transporting and feeding students to teaching them vital skills and ensuring that schools are operating smoothly, classified employees are integral to public education. The San Diego Unified Classified Employee event honors the district's 2021 Classified Employee of the Year, the Classified Employee of the Year Runner-Up, and more than 100 classified employees from individual schools and departments. The Classified Employee of the Year celebration is a traditional event on the Board of Education calendar. All Board members and senior district staff, community leaders and elected officials are scheduled to attend.
This year's virtual event is co-hosted by North Island Credit Union. "North Island Credit Union is honored to partner with San Diego Unified School District in this very important recognition of school employees," said North Island Credit Union CEO Steve O'Connell. "We are proud to celebrate those who play a vital role in the day‐to‐day operations of our schools as part of our mission to serve and support the San Diego education community.
