18 -- Jefferson Elementary Sculpture Unveiling, 11 a.m., Jefferson
Elementary School, 3770 Utah St. (92104). The sculpture, ³The Bookworm,²

23 -- SCPA ³Tommy² Fundraising Gala, Lyceum Theater, 6 p.m. 79 Horton
Plaza (92101). Reception, auction and drawings will benefit the San Diego
School of Creative and Performing Arts. Cost $45-75. The San Diego
Repertory Theatre and SCPA in their second-annual collaboration are
producing ³Tommy² onstage from July 16-Aug. 14. Contact: Mitzi Lizárraga,

21 -- Last day of year for Year-Round Schools

28 -- ³Music and the Mind,² 6 p.m., Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial
Ave. (92113). The Community Wellness program presents: Aniruddh Patel,
Ph.D, The Neurosciences Institute; and Sundiata Kata, Instructor San Diego
Youth Symphony. They will discuss the physiological and psychological
benefits of music on mental health and cognitive development preceded by
performances by San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory's Opus
Orchestra, Oak Park African Drummers, and International Youth Symphony.
Sponsored by the Lincoln High School Youth Health Council and UCSD Center

1 -- ³Managing Stress for Academic Success,² 6 p.m., Lincoln High School,
4777 Imperial Ave. (92113). The Community Wellness program presents: Chris
Yanov; and Ben Carson, MD, Johns Hopkins University. A guided discussion
following a screening of "Race to Nowhere" regarding the effects of stress
on the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development of children
and adolescents. Sponsored by the Lincoln High School Youth Health Council
and UCSD Center for Community Well-Being. Contact:

20 -- ³Building Healthy Communities,² 6 p.m., Lincoln High School, 4777
Imperial Ave. (92113). The Community Wellness program presents: James P.
Comer, MD, MPH, a nationally renowned child psychiatrist, will discuss
promoting collaboration among parents, educators and the community to
improve social, emotional and academic outcomes for students. Sponsored by
the Lincoln High School Youth Health Council and UCSD Center for Community
