MEDIA ADVISORY -- USDA Official Checks Out Breakfast in the Classroom at Central Elementary

morning, June 10, 2014, of Kevin Concannon, US Department of Agriculture
Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services. Under Secretary
Concannon will be observing the Breakfast in the Classroom program at
Central Elementary School in City Heights.

Supt. Cindy Marten will be leading the delegation from San Diego Unified
to welcome Under Secretary Concannon. Gary Petill, Food Services Director,
San Diego Unified, will also be available to answer questions on the

Breakfast in the Classroom at San Diego School

USDA highlights the importance of promoting healthy choices

SAN FRANCISCO, June 10, 2014 ­ TOMORROW, USDA Under Secretary for Food,
Nutrition and Consumer Services (FNCS) Kevin Concannon will observe
Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) at Central Elementary School of San Diego
Unified School District (SDUSD).

The USDA's School Breakfast Program provides a nutritious start to each
school day for nearly 13 million children in over 91,000 schools and
residential child care institutions. It offers school children of all
economic backgrounds a well-balanced, healthy meal consistent with the
latest nutrition science and dietary guidelines.
