It has come to my attention that the start time on tomorrow’s Supt. Camping Trip is incorrect. Students will not arrive until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 (not 7:30 as previously stated). My apologies for any inconvenience.

1.       Wednesday 6/28 – 6/30 – 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. - Superintendent Camping Trip
Media Coverage is available from 7:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. throughout the camping weekend. Superintendent Cindy Marten will be available for interview Wednesday, June 28 from 7:00 p.m. To 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, June 29 from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Third graders from Central Elementary School in City Heights will once again be experiencing typical camping rituals (sleeping in tents, eating s’mores, sharing stories and singing songs around the campfire) when they head out on the school’s annual camping trip to Louis A. Stelzer County Park on June 28, 29, and 30. This is the 11th annual trip supported by The Jarrett Meeker Foundation, and is often the first time the inner city students have been camping.

2.       Thursday, 6/29 – 9:00 a.m. – English Language Learners Reclassification Ceremony
This school year more than 2500 San Diego Unified students have met the requirements to be reclassified from an English Language Learner to a Fluent English Proficient. Languages from several different countries including, Spanish, Lau, Hmong, Vietnamese, Samoan and Arabic. Students that will be receiving reclassification certificates came into the classroom as English language learners. They were placed in English language development classes and over the course of their education, they’ve become proficient in the English language and reclassified as English language speakers. Rosa Parks Elementary will hold a special ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments of their students

3.       Thursday 6/29  10:30-11 a.m. – Central ES/Wilson MS Press Conference/Groundbreaking
Superintendent Cindy Marten and Board of Education President Richard Barrera will announce that a major, multi-phased construction project is beginning at Wilson Middle School. The principals of Central Elementary School and Wilson Middle School and some of their students will join the superintendent and board president in a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction that will demolish and rebuild Wilson MS on its existing site, and build a brand new campus for Central ES on the same site as the existing Wilson MS.
