Media Advisory: Police and Santa Bring Gifts to City Heights School

Central Elementary Students to receive brand-new bikes from police mentors, and surprise visit from “Santa” in SDPD helicopter

 

 

WHAT:         
San Diego Unified Police along with SD Probation and SDPD officers will surprise third-grade students with brand-new bikes and a surprise visit from “Santa,” who will be landing at Central Elementary (City Heights) via helicopter.

 

WHEN:         
Wednesday December 19, 2018

9:00am – 10:30am                            

 

WHERE:      
Central Elementary School, 4063 Polk Ave, San Diego, CA 92105

 

VISUALS:    
9:00 – 9:30am: 3rd grade students (approximately 30) and uniformed police officers meet and greet, brand-new bicycles and helmets unveiled and presented to students.

 

9:30 – 10:30am: Students and police mentors ride bikes, complete a bicycle safety course, and eat ice cream

 

*SDPD Helicopter, with Santa Claus inside, will be flying overhead and landing onsite sometime in the 9:00 – 10:00am window
               

 

GUEST SPEAKERS/INTERVIEWS:

 

San Diego Unified School District Police Chief Mike Marquez, other police officer mentors, students and their families

 

 

BACKGROUND:

 

Now in its fourth year, the San Diego Unified Police “True Blue Buddies” program is a year-long police-student mentorship program. This year, 30 children from Central Elementary School are paired with police officer mentors from SDUSD Police, San Diego County Probation and SDPD. As part of the program, officers and the Bikes for Kids Foundation team up to provide students with brand-new bicycles and helmets in this surprise giveaway event.
