MEDIA ADVISORY: School Police Surprise Hancock Elementary School "Buddies" with Bikes
WHAT: Students at Hancock Elementary will receive surprise holiday gifts from their True Blue Buddies at San Diego Unified School Police Department: shiny new bicycles, helmets, locks and a few other goodies.
WHEN: Friday, Dec. 20, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
9:15 a.m. School police officers arrive
9:30 a.m. The event kicks off in the school auditorium where students meet with their school police buddy
9:55 a.m. Students and school police officers head out to the basketball court
10:05 a.m. Santa Claus arrives and greets the students
10:10a.m. Helicopter fly-by
10:15 a.m. Santa Clause will surprise the students with a special announcement that every student will receive a bike
10:30 a.m. The bike rodeo begins with four stations. The officers will escort their buddy to get their bike sized and practice with their new bike
11:30 a.m. Students will be served lunch
WHERE: Hancock Elementary School Auditorium, 3303 Taussig St., San Diego, CA 92124
VISUALS: Students receiving their bikes, interacting with police mentors, and visiting with Santa Claus.
SPEAKERS AVAILABLE: Irene Hightower, Hancock Elementary Principal; Michael Marquez, SDUSD Police Chief; Pamela King, Program Manager, Family Engagement Department.
BACKGROUND: Through a generous grant from Target, our officers mentor a group of students to build a bridge between the students, their families and our officers. Throughout the school year, our officers participate in several events alongside the selected students.
