BACKGROUND: Since schools physically closed in March to help stop the spread of COVID-19, San Diego Unified has collaborated with the region's leading scientific experts at UC San Diego to determine when it would be safe to welcome students back to the classroom. San Diego Unified will start the new school year on Aug. 31 with online instruction under a model that calls for a combination of live teacher instruction and independent work. The goal is to provide students with an experience that resembles traditional classroom instruction as closely as possible.
