MEDIA ADVISORY: Mira Mesa High School Marching Band, Color Guard to be Honored with Official Rose Parade Invite

 

The Mira Mesa High School “Sapphire Sound” Marching Band and Color Guard will receive an official Rose Parade invitation on Friday, Nov. 5. The invitation will be delivered by Tournament of Roses President Dr. Robert Miller for the Jan. 1, 2022, Rose Parade in Pasadena. Festivities with band performances begin at 11:30 a.m. The band will perform the National Anthem promptly at 11:50 a.m.

WHERE: Mira Mesa High School Football Stadium, 10510 Marauder Way, San Diego

BACKGROUND: For only the second time in school history (2016), the Mira Mesa High School “Sapphire Sound” Marching Band and Color Guard is being invited to participate in the iconic Rose Parade in Pasadena on New Year’s Day, 2022. This will be the 133^rd Rose Parade. Mira Mesa High School was originally scheduled to march in the 2021 Rose Parade along the 5 ½-mile route down Colorado Boulevard, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, a total of 16 marching bands are being invited from both across the United States and worldwide, with representatives from as far away as Italy and Japan.

INVITED GUESTS/SPEAKERS: Mira Mesa High School Principal Jeff Sabins, Tournament of Roses President Dr. Robert Miller, San Diego Unified Interim Superintendent Lamont Jackson, Board of Education Trustee Sabrina Bazzo, San Diego Unified Director of Visual and Performing Arts Russ Sperling
