San Diego Unified Welcomes Students, Staff Back to School    

New High School, Instructional Model Featured at Logan Memorial Educational Campus

The San Diego Unified School District will start the new school year Monday, August 29. Members of the media are invited to a back-to-school celebration at Logan Memorial Educational Campus. Superintendent Dr. Lamont Jackson and district representatives will welcome back students and staff, and share the district’s priorities for the 2022-23 school year.

WHAT: Back-to-school welcome and news conference for 2022-23 school year

WHEN: Monday, August 29, 6-8:35 a.m.

BACKGROUND: This year’s welcome will take place at LMEC which is in the final stages of a whole site modernization. Construction began in the fall of 2018 and is expected to be complete this winter. LMEC’s prenatal-to-career public Montessori campus is the first of its kind in California. The Montessori approach values a hands-on experience for students that encourages creativity and fosters independence.

The campus offers a child development center known as El Nido, a preschool, an elementary school, a middle school and a high school. The high school, the first-ever built in Logan Heights, is opening its doors to freshmen this year, with higher grade levels opening in subsequent years.
