San Diego High School Dedicates Three Brand New
College, Career & Technical Education Facilities
Thanks to Proposition S
WHAT: San Diego Unified School District’s San Diego High School Education Complex is dedicating three new state-of-the-art facilities for the following College, Career & Technical Education programs: Culinary Arts Management, Finance and Business, and High Definition Broadcast/Multimedia Production. Approximately 900 students are served by the three programs.
The newly-constructed facilities, ranging from 2,262 to 3,500 square feet, represent an investment of more than $5.6 million into San Diego High School students and teachers. The facilities were designed according to industry standards to create a professional and practical environment.
WHEN: Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, 10:50 to 11:05 a.m. (speeches and ribbon-cutting ceremony); 11:05 a.m. to noon, tours of all three facilities and mock news broadcast.
WHERE: 1405 Park Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92101 (Building 100, east side of the Administration Building). Media vehicles may park in the lot in front of the school on Park Boulevard. Because parking is very limited, it would be extremely helpful if you would call me in advance at (619) 546-3378 (mobile) so I can assist you with parking.
VISUALS: Ribbon-cutting ceremony, reception hosted by culinary arts students, principal-lead tours of all three state-of-the-art facilities and equipment/technology, and mock news broadcast.
INTERVIEWS: Guest speakers include Richard Barrera, president of the Board of Education; William Kowba, district superintendent; Shawn Loescher, director of College, Career and Technical Education; and Stuart Markey, executive director of the Capital Improvement Bond Program (Proposition S). Principals, students and guest speakers will be available for interviews (English and Spanish).
BACKGROUND: On November 4, 2008, nearly 69 percent of the voters in San Diego passed the $2.1 billion general obligation bond measure, Proposition S, so that San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) could repair, renovate and revitalize more than 200 schools. The state-of-the facilities are three of 22 College, Career & Technical Education projects being constructed under the Proposition S (local) and Proposition 1D (state) bond programs.
The project partners include Soltek Pacific Construction, St. Thomas Enterprises, Inc.; Group Cristilli Architects and Sillman Wright Architects.
