22 -- School Choice Enrollment Options Fair, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Recital
Hall, Balboa Park. Parents can to obtain information on the various programs
offered within our District. Schools from across the district will
participate in the fair. Options period runs through Feb. 15. Contact: Donis

22 -- Tiger Team Kickoff, 1-3 p.m., Ballard Parent Center, 2375 Congress St.
(92110). The Board of Education's Efficiency Committee will be starting
work, examining operations and finding ways to save money. Hosted by Board

24 ­ Henry Cluster Council Meeting, 6 p.m., Henry High School Library, 6702
Wandermere Dr. (92120). Discussion and community dialogue with parents and
community members in the Henry High School area, including middle and

25 -- ReCentering Parenting, 6 p.m., Cherokee Point Elementary School, 3735
38th St. (92105). A six-week course that teaches parents, students,
guardians and grandparents power tools and real time strategies for
transforming students' academic and citizenship performance. Learn exactly
what it takes to create success in students' primary, secondary and post

* 26 -- Walk-in Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hoover High School, 4474 El
Cajon Blvd. (92115). Area Superintendent Tony Burks will be meeting with
parents and the community all day at Hoover. Feel free to bring your

* 26 -- Hoover High Cluster Organizational Meeting, 6 p.m., Hoover High
School, 4474 El Cajon Blvd. (92116). First meeting to begin putting together
an advisory committee for Hoover High and its "feeder" elementary and middle

26-27 -- Hickman Elementary Colonial Days, Hickman Elementary School, 10850
Montongo St. (92126). At 6 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, fifth
graders will take on the role of Colonial artisans. Visitors may tour
Colonial Hickmanburg to find out about the economy and customs of the time.

26 -- Supporting Your Child's Special Learning Needs at Home, 6 p.m., Miller
Elementary School, 4343 Shields St. (92124). Topics include: Understanding
and developing your child's ability to learn; creating and structuring a
school smart home; building positive parent-teacher relationships; and
specific strategies for supporting your child's learning in the areas of

27 -- Mt. Everest Academy Physics Project Fair, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mt.
Everest Academy, 4350 Clairemont Blvd. (92117). Laws of physics are
demonstrated in students' projects, including gravity, inertia, friction,
velocity. Attendees can view and grade the students' displays. Contact:

28 -- Dana Middle School Variety Show, 6:30 p.m., Dana Middle School, 1775
Chatsworth Blvd. (92106). Singing, dancing, juggling, gymnastics, karate,
instrumentals, rock bands, air bands, skits, acting scenes, hip hop, be bop,
skateboarders, unicyclers, poets, magicŠ family entertainment at its finest!

29 -- Holmes Elementary Electronic Recycling, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Holmes
Elementary School, 4902 Mt. Ararat Dr. (92111). Bring your old computers,
TVs and other high-tech junk to this regular event. Proceeds benefit the

29 -- Special Education "SibShop," 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Pt. Loma United
Methodist Church, 1984 Sunset Cliffs Blvd. (92107). A fun filled event
includes games, crafts, and activities geared to the specific needs of
siblings with brothers/sisters with special needs. Lunch will be provided.

February

1 -- Challenger Middle School Campus Tour, 9:30-10:15 a.m., Challenger
Middle School, 10810 Parkdale Ave. (92126). Parents interested in enrolling
their 6th, 7th or 8th grader in Challenger for the 2011-12 school year are
encouraged to tour the school and apply through the Enrollment Options
programs before the February 15, 2011, deadline. Please contact Tamra

2 -- Barnard Elementary Chinese New Year Celebration, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.,
Barnard Elementary School, 2930 Barnard St. (92110). The Mandarin Chinese
magnet school invites the community to this traditional Chinese ceremony to
welcome the Year of the Rabbit. Contact: Edward Park, Principal, (619)

Feb. 5.

2 -- Pt. Loma Cluster Schools Committee, 6-8 p.m., Barnes Tennis Center,

* 2 -- Achievement Celebration, Advanced Placement Incentive Program, 12:30
p.m., San Diego Air and Space Museum, 2001 Pan American Plaza, Balboa Park

of advanced placement success. Advanced Placement (AP) programs allow high

3 -- Coordinated School Health and Wellness Council, 2:30 p.m., Revere
Center, 6735 Gifford Way (92111). The council meets to promote health
education, healthy eating and physical activity for staff and students
according to the coordinated school health model and in compliance with the
federal Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act (Healthy, Hunger Free

* 9 -- Dingeman Elementary School Tours, 9:30 a.m. Dingman Elementary

San Diego Unified's finest schools and meet principal Kimie Lochtfeld, just
a few days before the School Choice deadline. Dingman teachers are GATE

14 -- Ladies of Science in the City, 11 a.m., Serra High School, 5156 Santo
Rd. (92124). UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and 30 members of the Ladies of
Science program will visit with students and perform a pickle experiment
conducted by UCSD chemistry professor James Whitesell (the chancellor's

* 2 -- Read Across America Day, celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss, San
Diego's own Ted Geisel. Schools across the district and across the country
will participate in a program to encourage reading. Contact individual

* 7 -- Crawford High Cluster Committee Meeting, 6 p.m., Marshall Elementary

19-26 -- San Diego Science Festival, on SDUSD campuses and in various
locations around San Diego. More than 75,000 students, parents, scientists,
educators, and other community members are anticipated to take part in this
year's activities, with over 30,000 expected on Expo Day, a
