SAN DIEGO UNIFIED, SAN DIEGO COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARDS HOLD JOINT MEETING
WHAT: Joint meeting between the boards of the San Diego Unified School
District and San Diego Community College District.
WHEN/WHERE: 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, Educational Cultural Complex,
4343 Ocean View Blvd. (92113)
DETAILS: The Boards of San Diego County's largest school and community
college districts will hold their first joint meeting in many years. Board
members are scheduled to discuss the current collaborations between
schools and colleges, such as accelerated-college programs,
career-technical education and two high schools that are located on San
Diego Community College District campuses. Community colleges in San Diego
began in 1914 when the San Diego Unified School District started
postsecondary classes. The system had expanded to include City College and
Mesa College before the San Diego Community College District was formed in
1972.
QUOTE: "Our students benefit every day from the ongoing relationship with
the San Diego Community College District. Whether it's a student taking a
community college class at a high school and receiving transferrable
college credit, to our high schools located at community colleges, this is
an important partnership. I look forward to this public discussion." --
Bill Kowba, Superintendent, San Diego Unified School District.
