* 17 -- Barnard Elementary Food Truck Gathering, 4-7 p.m., Barnard
Elementary School, 2930 Barnard St. (92110). Have some great local food
while supporting San Diego Unified's Mandarin Chinese language magnet
school. Super Q, Asian Persuasian, The Gooch, Sweet Treats Truck and
Operacafe Tuscan Truck are all scheduled to be parked at the Pt. Loma
school and serving up goodies. Ten percent of the proceeds go to Barnard

* 3 -- Chesterton Elementary Makeover, 8 a.m., Chesterton Elementary
School, 7335 Wheatley St. (92111). The Pearson Foundation is heading up a
200-person strong work party to help spruce up the neighborhood school,
located in a Navy housing area north of Linda Vista. Contact: Bridget de

7 -- Mira Mesa High Class of 2013 Rummage Sale, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mira
Mesa High School, 10510 Reagan Rd. (92126). Help raise money for the Class

9 -- Madison Community of Schools Meeting, 5:30 p.m., Madison High School,
Madison High School, 4833 Doliva Dr. (92117). Parents, students and
community members are invited to attend this meeting, which discusses
educational issues at the high school and its middle and elementary
schools. Schools in the Madison community are: Field, Hawthorne, Holmes,
Lafayette, Lindbergh/Schweitzer, Sequoia and Whitman elementary schools;
Creative, Performing and Media Arts and Innovation middle schools; Mt.

Lincoln cluster are: Baker, Balboa, Chavez, Chollas/Mead, Encanto, Horton,
Johnson, Nye, Porter, Valencia Park, Webster; Knox and Millennial Tech

* 12 -- Pt. Loma High 8th Grade Family Night, 6 p.m., Pt. Loma High
School, 2335 Chatsworth Blvd. (92106). Evening gives families and middle
school students who will be entering Pt. Loma High next year a chance to

12 -- La Jolla Cluster Association Meeting, 4:15 p.m., Muirlands Middle
School, 1056 Nautilus St. (92037). Parents, students and community members
are invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at

Jolla cluster are: Bird Rock, La Jolla and Torrey Pines elementary

* 14-15 -- E-Waste Drop-off, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., University City High
School, 6949 Genesee Ave. (92122). Drop off those old TVs, computers and
other electronic gear. Proceeds benefit the University City High School

* 14 -- Clairemont High School Cheerleading Clinic, 8 a.m. to noon,
Clairemont High School, 4150 Ute Dr. (92117). The big kids will be
teaching the little kids as Chieftain Varsity Cheer squad invites all kids
age 4 and up to this clinic that raises money for the program. Cost: $20;
participant's get a t-shirt and a bow to wear at their performance.

*2 -- Transforming Education -- Education Re-Energized, 5:30 p.m., USS
Midway Museum, 910 North Harbor Drive (92101). Best-selling author and
leadership consultant Steve Farber will share the perspectives of his
book, The Radical Leap Re-Energized, and will lead a discussion of
educators who¹ve successfully implemented his ³Leap² tenets of Love,
Energy, Audacity and Proof and Extreme Leadership. In addition, you¹ll
have the rare opportunity to meet representatives from many of the
region¹s most generous corporate and community-sponsored education

*3 -- Clairemont High Community Tri Mathlon, 6-8 p.m., Marston Middle
School, 3799 Clairemont Dr. Tri Mathlon is a math competition for
mathletes of all abilities where kids compete by grade-level. The contest
features three worksheets involving problems that use number sense, not
special formulas or calculators. Students from throughout the Clairemont
High cluster (middle and elementary schools that feed to Clairemont High

high school choirs from all over San Diego county will join together and

22 -- La Jolla Cluster Views "Race to Nowhere," 6:30 p.m., La Jolla High
Parker Auditorium, 750 Nautilus St. (92037). "Race to Nowhere: The Dark
Side of America's Achievement Culture" will be watched, followed by a
panel discussion The cluster association first showed this film in October
2010, and it prompted changes in homework policies at some public.
Tickets: $10. If more than 50 attend, the school will be given a copy of
