PROJECT STABILIZATION AGREEMENT STUDY IS TOPIC FOR BOARD MEMBERS' NEWS
CONFERENCE Friday, DEC. 9
WHAT: News conference by Richard Barrera, Board of Education President,
and Scott Barnett, Subdistrict C Trustee, discussing the Rea and Parcher
Research study on Proposition S construction cost, labor, contractor
survey and the Project Stabilization Agreement.
WHEN: 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2011
WHERE: Hoover High School "Green Building." From El Cajon Boulevard, go
north on Highland Avenue and look for attendant at gate just south of
football stadium. The "Green Building," the school's nearly complete new
wood shop, is adjacent to Highland Avenue. Parking will be available for
the media. Hoover is located at 4474 El Cajon Blvd. (92115).
DETAILS: The report, commissioned by the district, examines the effects of
the Project Stabilization Agreement, which specifies basic standards for
hiring, dispute resolution, payment of benefits and utilization of
apprentices, among other features. The Board of Education members will
discuss the details of the report, including key findings that show: the
number of local workers on PSA projects from targeted zip codes is now
close to the 35 percent Board goal; there has been no increase in costs
due to the agreement; and that reduced bidders and contractor profit is
not the result of the agreement.
PHOTOS/INTERVIEWS: Following prepared remarks, the Board members will take
questions from the media, then visit the school's existing wood shop to
talk with students in teacher Arturo Gonzalez's class. Students can be
photographed and interviewed.
NOTE: Because this news conference is on school grounds during the school
day, only accredited media will be allowed to attend. All media will be
directed to the special entrance off Highland Avenue. This event is not
open to the public.
