MEDIA ADVISORY from the San Diego Unified School District, June 20, 2012
KIDS FREE SUMMER LUNCH PROGRAM KICKS OFF WEDNESDAY
WHAT: Kickoff of Summer Fun Café, the San Diego Unified School District
and City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department's summer lunch
program for kids.
WHEN/WHERE: 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Skyline Hills
Community Park, 8285 Skyline Dr. (92114).
DETAILS: The annual Summer Fun Café free lunch program for kids kicks off
with a fun family barbecue. At 69 locations this summer, kids can get a
free lunch... and a free breakfast at some. Funded by the U.S. Department
of Agriculture's Seemless Summer Feeding Option, kids age 18 and under can
get free lunch at city Recreation Centers and, starting later this summer,
many of their neighborhood schools. The WalMart Foundation is funding
adult meals at this event.
SPEAKERS/VISUAL; Gary Petill, San Diego Unified's food services director,
will be available for comment. The festive event will include a variety of
activities for families, the San Diego Padres' Friar and Pad Squad are
scheduled to perform, and other community groups will be on hand. More
than 1,000 meals are generally served at this event, which packs the park.
