Block conducts education town hall
SACRAMENTO – State Senator Marty Block (SD-39), chair of the State Senate Education Budget subcommittee, will host a community town hall on Thursday, April 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. to hear what constituents think of Gov. Jerry Brown's proposed education budget. The town hall will take place at University City High School, 6949 Genesee Ave. in San Diego.
"Voters were very generous in approving Proposition 30 because they understood how California's economic downturn had devastated the state budget and classroom funding," Block said. "Now, it's important to me to receive district input on the governor's proposals."
Gov. Brown's proposals include restructuring the school funding formula for school districts and charter schools. A key proposal, the "Local Control Funding Formula," would change the way state allocations for school districts and charter schools are distributed.
Edgar Cabral, an education analyst with the nonpartisan Legislative Analyst's Office, and San Diego Unified Board of Education President John Lee Evans are also participating in the town hall.
For more information, contact Block's district office at 619-645-3133.
