APRIL
13 -- University City High School Music Department¹s Music Festival, 9
a.m., University City High Auditorium, 6949 Genesee Ave. (92122) Come
enjoy a free celebration of music with the Southern California School

* 16, 18 -- Peninsula Winds and Strings Concerts, 7 p.m., Pt. Loma High
School, 2335 Chatsworth Blvd. (92106). Pt. Loma Nazarene University
students will join students from Pt. Loma High, Dana and Correia middle
school on Tuesday night; on Thursday, Dana and Correia middle school and
Pt. Loma High students will play. Contact:
* 17 -- Food Truck Family Night Benefitting University City area schools,
5-7:30 p.m., Spreckels Elementary School parking lot, 6033 Stadium St.
(92122). Have dinner on campus, with 10 percent of proceeds going to
EdUCate, the University City school foundation. Contact: EdUCate,

* 17-20 -- Honors Theatre Students Perform Musical about Cesar Chavez,
Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Ave. (92113). Students from throughout
district high schools audition and are brought together to perform during
this "all star" performance, which are at 7 p.m. April 18-19 and 2 p.m.
April 20. This year they are performing "Let the Eagle Fly," a musical
about Cesar Chavez. Cost: $5 students; $10 adults. Contact: Patrick

* 18 -- US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack visits San Diego Schools,
location and time to be announced. The Secretary of Agriculture is
scheduled to inspect San Diego Unified's food services operations and hold

18 -- Area 4 Kearny Cluster Meeting, 4:30, Kearny High, Room 301, 7651
Wellington Street (92111). Parents, students and community members are
invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at the
high school and its middle and elementary schools. Schools in the Kearny
cluster are: Angier, Carson, Chesterton, Cubberley, Fletcher, Jones,
Juarez, Linda Vista, Ross, Wegeforth elementary schools; Montgomery and

* 19 -- Hoover High Financial Literacy Ceremony, 1:30 p.m., Hoover High
School, 4474 El Cajon Blvd. (92115). U.S. Bank and EverFi cordially invite
you to join us for a certification ceremony honoring 80 Hoover High School
students who have achieved certification in financial literacy after
completing the U.S. Bank Financial GeniUS Program, an innovative web-based

19 -- EdUCate! Taste of the Triangle, UC San Diego Faculty Club, UC San
Diego, 9500 Gilman Dr. La Jolla. Evening of eating and entertainment
benefits schools in the University City High cluster. EdUCate! is a
nonprofit foundation established in 1993 with the goal of providing
supplemental funds to all five University City public schools. More

21-- Fast Time 5K, 7 a.m., De Anza Cove Mission Bay Park. A fund-raiser
for the Clairemont Mesa Foundation, which supports the 16 schools in the
Madison and Clairemont clusters. Sponsored by the Clairemont Hills

* 27 -- Cabrillo Elementary beautification, 8 a.m. to noon, Cabrillo
Elementary School, 3120 Talbot St. (92106). The San Diego Rotary Club will
be painting the school logo and doing other spruce-up projects with staff

29 -- Year-round schools reopen after spring break.
30 -- National College Fair, 9 a.m. to noon, 6-8:30 p.m., San Diego
Convention Center, Exhibit Hall H, 111 West Harbor Drive, (92101). Parents
and students participating in National College Fairs meet one-on-one with
representatives from colleges and universities to discuss admission and
financial aid opportunities at their respective institutions. Contact:

* 1 -- Green Elementary WAT-AAH Move Your Body, 10:42 a.m., Green

Lady's Lets Move Campaign, the entire school will be performing Beyonce 's

2 -- Dana Middle School Family Tour, 3:30 p.m., Dana Middle School, 1775
Chattsworth Blvd. (92107). Fourth grade students and parents are invited
to participate in a school tour. Meet with Principal Ryan and other staff
members during a Q-A session. Tour the library, art studio, science labs,

7 San Diego Unified¹s Day of the Teacher, 4:30 p.m., Kearny High School,
7651 Wellington St. (92111). The district¹s annual Teacher of the Year
recognition for school site Teachers of the Year and the district Teachers

11 -- Area 8 Cluster Meeting, 5:30 p.m., San Diego High School Library,

invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at the
high school and its middle and elementary schools. Schools in the San
Diego cluster are: Birney, Burbank, Emerson/Bandini, Florence, Garfield,
Jefferson, Kimbrough, McKinley, Rodriguez, Sherman, and Washington
elementary schools; Golden Hill, Grant, Logan, Perkins K-8s; Memorial and
Roosevelt Middle Schools; and San Diego Complex high schools. Contact:

21 San Diego Unified¹s 2013 Classified Employee of the Year, 4:30 p.m.,
Mann Middle School, 4345 54th St. (92115). The district¹s annual
Classified Employee of the Year celebration in which school site and
district facility employees are recognized. One individual will be
recognized as the district¹s Classified Employee of the Year for 2013.
