Hundreds of Students to Break Ground on New Music Building at Mira Mesa High School
WHAT: Hundreds of Mira Mesa High School band students and the San Diego Unified School District will celebrate the construction of a new music building and campus-wide improvements with a groundbreaking ceremony.
WHEN: Tuesday November 13, 2018

7:45am – 8:15am: Student Performance and Groundbreaking Ceremony
WHERE: Mira Mesa High School, 10510 Marauder Way, San Diego, CA 92126
VISUALS: 6:00am: Music students with instruments, school and district staff available for interviews, tours of construction site, project renderings.
7:45am: Hundreds of music students will provide a musical performance while flanking the groundbreaking location. Behind them will be heavy construction equipment and the recently completed football stadium. Their performance will be followed by a brief speaking program and the groundbreaking ceremony. Parents, community members, and school and district staff.

San Diego Unified School District Superintendent Cindy Marten, Board of Education Trustee John Lee Evans, Facilities Planning and Construction Chief Lee Dulgeroff, Principal Jeff Sabins, Mira Mesa High School students and families.
PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The Site Modernization project at Mira Mesa High School includes construction of a new classroom building, music building, and upgrades to existing buildings and systems.
The new classroom building provides 14 classrooms and additional educational support spaces. The new music building provides a band rehearsal room, orchestra rehearsal room, practice spaces, and storage.
Upgrades to existing buildings and systems include the public address system, fire alarm system, walkways, voice over internet telephone system, i21 classroom technology, classroom remodels and renovations. The project provides accessibility and other improvements to satisfy California Building Code requirements.
BACKGROUND:
San Diego Unified’s capital projects are funded by San Diego Unified School District’s Propositions S and Z, which are local bond measures approved by San Diego voters to repair, renovate and revitalize neighborhood schools. In addition to renovation and replacement, bond projects include classroom technology, facilities to support College, Career and Technical Education, classroom air conditioning, safety and security upgrades, and other facilities improvements at traditional and public charter schools throughout San Diego Unified.
