EAST MEETS WEST IN SAN DIEGO¹S MOST DIVERSE CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION

WHAT: Barnard Elementary Mandarin Chinese Magnet School¹s fifth annual
CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION: 2013 Year of the Snake

WHEN:

Wednesday, Feb. 20
-- 6-9 a.m. (live for morning news shows; please schedule in advance)
-- 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 20, for local dignitaries (media welcome)

Saturday, Feb. 23
-- 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Public celebration

WHERE: Barnard Elementary School, 2930 Barnard Street, San Diego, CA 92110

DETAILS: Barnard Elementary Mandarin Chinese Magnet School has something
special to celebrate in the coming Year of the Snake: it will be moving
next school year to a new campus in Pacific Beach.

That means Barnard will not only continue to teach Chinese, but will
expand to offer other Pacific Rim languages, such as Japanese and Korean.
It may be the only public school of this kind in the nation.

So it is with extra excitement that Barnard celebrates Chinese New Year ­
and its future ­ this year. Please join us for traditional lion dance,
martial arts demonstrations, classical Chinese musical performances, and
performances by Barnard¹s incredible students On Wednesday, Feb. 20 and
Saturday, Feb. 23. The festival draws hundreds of people from all over the
county.
