SEPTEMBER
23-27 -- Student Body Presidents' Anti-Bullying Week, high schools around
San Diego Unified. The Council of ASB Presidents has set this week for
their schools to highlight ways to confront biases, stereotypes, bullying

24 -- Lincoln High Back to School Night and Title I Parent Meeting, 5:30
p.m., Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Ave. (92113). Find out about all
the great things going on at Lincoln High this year. Contact: Dr. Esther

* 25 -- Broad Prize Announcement Party, 7:30 a.m., Auditorium, Eugene
Brucker Education Center, 4100 Normal St. (92103). San Diego Unified is a
first-time finalist for The Broad Prize, one of four urban school
districts in America competing, with $550,000 in college scholarships for
high school seniors in the winning district and $150,000 in scholarships
for each of the finalist districts. The announcement will be made at
approximately 8 a.m. San Diego time, via video from Washington, D.C.

25 -- Correia Middle School Master Planning for Whole Site Modernization,
6 p.m., Correia Middle School, 2335 Chatsworth Blvd. (92106). A long-range
site master plan for Correia Middle School¹s Whole Site Modernization
project is being developed. The site master plan provides a road map for
the near- and long-term growth and redevelopment of your school campus. It
will also assist in planning capital facilities bond projects. Contact:

27 -- Barnard Asian Pacific Language Academy Grand Opening Celebration, 8
a.m., new Barnard Elementary School, 2445 Fogg Street (92109). Barnard's
acclaimed Asian Pacific Language Academy has moved to larger quarters in
Pacific Beach, near Mission Bay High School. Chinese dancers, dignitaries
and students will be participating in the formal dedication of the
facility, the updated former Bayview Terrace Elementary School. Contact:

27 -- Madison High School School of the Arts Back-To-School Barbecue,
5-6:30 p.m., Madison High School, 4833 Doliva Dr. (92117). Meet your

26 -- Dana Middle School Curriculum Night, 5:30 p.m., Dana Middle School,
1775 Chatsworth Blvd. (92106). Curriculum Night provides parents with an
opportunity to learn about the educational program for the 2013-14 school

OCTOBER
5 -- Oktoberfest benefitting University City Schools, 2-6 p.m., Standley
Park and Recreation Center, 3585 Governor Drive (92122). Sponsored by
EdUCate, the University City schools' foundation, the event will include
games for kids, Standley Middle School's marching band and food. Contact:

5 -- San Diego County Office of Education "Salute to Teachers," 7 p.m.,
Balboa Theater, 868 4th Ave. (92101). Sponsored by Cox Communications and
the San Diego County Office of Education, the program announces the San
Diego County Teachers of the Year, which may include winners from San
Diego Unified. In addition, two San Diego Unified teachers will be
receiving special awards: Lara Dickens from Henry High School has been
named the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation 2013 Environmental Educator,
and Patrick Trotter from Bethune K-8 has been named the Procopio 2013

7 -- La Jolla High School Cluster Meeting, 3:30 p.m., La Jolla High
School, 750 Nautilus St. (92037). Parents, students and community members
are invited to attend this meeting, which discusses educational issues at
the high school and its middle and elementary schools. Schools in the La
Jolla cluster are: Bird Rock, La Jolla and Torrey Pines elementary
schools; Muirlands Middle School and La Jolla High School. Contact: Pat

* 9 -- International Walk to School Day, schools throughout San Diego
Unified. Day encourages parents to walk their kids to school for benefits
of exercise, less traffic and pollution and getting to know their

* 18 -- 60th Anniversary Homecoming, 3 p.m., Mission Bay High School, 2475
Grand Ave. (92109). Bucs play longtime rivals Kearny at 3 p.m. Contact:

18 -- Spreckels Elementary School Spooky Sprint Jog-a-Thon, 11:30 a.m.,
Spreckels Elementary School, 6033 Stadium St. (92122). Fundraiser for PTA
and school, event brings community support and helps promote exercise.
