San Diego Unified School District Breaks Ground on New Jonas Salk Elementary School

WHAT:  Dr. Peter Salk, son of the late Dr. Jonas Salk (1914-1995), the American medical researcher best known for his discovery and development of the first successful polio vaccine, will join Superintendent of Public Schools Cynthia Marten, Board President John Lee Evans and City Councilmember Lorie Zapf as San Diego Unified School District breaks ground for the new Jonas Salk Elementary School in Mira Mesa tomorrow. The school district invited students, parents, staff and community members to celebrate with them.

WHEN:  Saturday, Sept. 7 (tomorrow), 10 a.m.

WHERE: Salk Elementary School construction site 7825 Flanders Drive, San Diego 92126
Directions: From I-5 or I-15, take Mira Mesa Blvd., turn (south) on Parkdale Avenue. The entrance to the construction site is on Parkdale Avenue.
Media parking will be available on site. Enter the construction gate across from Gold Coast Drive (Parkdale and Gold Coast)

BACKGROUND: Jonas Salk Elementary School is designed to serve approximately 700 kindergarten through sixth-grade students. This project represents an investment of more than $24 million into the students of Mira Mesa and the community of Mira Mesa. The school is scheduled to open September 2015.
