USDA Under Secretary For Food, Nutrition And Consumer Services to Visit Summer Fun Café Site
WHAT: United States Department of Agriculture Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon will visit the Malcolm X Branch Library to observe firsthand children receiving free lunches at a Summer Fun Café. This free summer lunch program offered by San Diego Unified Food and Nutrition Services is funded through the national Summer Food Service Program that Under Secretary Concannon oversees.

BACKGROUND: Summer Fun Café is a free lunch program offered by San Diego Unified Food and Nutrition Services. The Malcolm X Branch Library is one of the 58 Summer Fun Café sites that San Diego Unified Food and Nutrition Services sponsors for the free summer lunch program. The funding for this program comes through the USDA’s Seamless Summer Option, which is a branch of the Summer Food Service Program. As the Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services, Concannon oversees the national Summer Food Service Program. This will be the first time Concannon has come to observe San Diego Unified’s summer lunch program.
