SAN DIEGO UNIFIED SCHOOL POLICE 'TRUE BLUE BUDDIES' SURPRISE WALKER ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WITH NEW BIKES
WHAT: "True Blue Buddies," a group of San Diego Unified School Police Officers and Community Service Officers deliver 29 bicycles to each of their True Blue Buddies — "adopted" youths at risk — from Walker Elementary School in Mira Mesa. The students will be surprised to receive their bicycles, helmet and lock by their Buddies at a special holiday lunch. In addition, Barbara Navarette, a retired Community Service Officer, will give a bike safety lesson and fit each student to their new helmet.
WHEN: 11:30 a.m., Walker Elementary School, 9225 Hillery Dr., San Diego, CA 92126. Media, please check in at school office. Spanish-speakers available. All students have parent permission to be photographed and some parent/guardians will be in attendance.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: Students ranging in age from 8-11 years old receiving their surprise gifts, warm wishes from police officers and community service officers in uniform.
