San Diego Unified Celebrates Opening of New Family Welcome and Enrollment Center to Provide One-on-One Assistance to New Families

New facility will provide walk-in support and personal assistance to new to district families with questions about their neighborhood school and other enrollment options

 

WHAT: New Welcome Center facility will provide walk-in assistance to new to district families, many of whom are military, providing information about their quality neighborhood schools as well as schools with special programs such as IB, STEM/STEAM, foreign language study, and visual and performing arts.  Staff is multilingual.

 

WHEN: Wednesday, August 24, 2016 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

 

WHERE: Eugene Brucker Education Center, Family Welcome and Enrollment Center, Annex 12, 4100 Normal St., San Diego, CA 92103.

 

DETAILS: Families new to San Diego Unified School District will benefit from personalized assistance in obtaining information about enrollment opportunities for students including neighborhood school information and Choice options. Online pre-enrollment into the neighborhood school is available in the facility, as well as information about other options.  Helpful staff will be on hand Monday through Friday to answer enrollment questions and assist families in getting information on programs and offerings on over 175 campuses in the district. 

 

The new facility will feature computers available for parents to use, as well as a hands-on look at the technology available at their neighborhood school.  Interactive Promethean boards will feature the district and school websites that provide specific information about each school.  Display monitors will stream photos of pupils and activities at elementary, middle, and high schools.  The Welcome Center will serve as a one-stop-shop for information, where families can come for one-on-one support. Representatives will be available to assist families in English and Spanish, and the Center also has staff who speak French and Japanese.

 

SPEAKERS: The Director of Neighborhood Schools and Enrollment Options, Marceline Marques, will be available for Q-and-A.

 

VISUALS: Media tours of the new facility along with interviews with Welcome Center representatives will be available on an appointment basis from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
